Yachats, Oregon

August 16 - 20, 2008

Sea Perch RV Resort, Yachats, WA

This is Heceta Head Lighthouse, 205 feet from the ocean. This was one of the views on our trip north on 101 from Bandon to Yachats (pronounced YAH-hots, derived from the Chinook Indian word, Yahuts, meaning dark water at the foot of the mountain).

I was so looking forward to coming to this rv park. There are only 29 sites and 10 of them are less than 100 feet from the ocean (at high tide). Except for a total of about one hour, we have had rain and heavy fog. There has been impressive lightening and thunder for a continuous 12 hours now. When the sun does come out (or down, as the case may be), we take advantage with the camera!

If you enlarge this picture you will see Route 101. This is the highway that runs along the west coast. Some areas are "white knucklers" where I close my eyes; but Ken handles the motorcoach with the skill of a professional!!

You see here the sunset lowering into the fog bank that we have seen along the coast since we got here.

We enjoyed the view of Heceta Head Lighthouse, so we decided to go visit.

Even the walk to the lighthouse produces many pretty views.

Wildflowers are abundant along the Oregon Coast and they would appear more vibrant with a little sunshine.

We planned these last couple of days to relax and unwind, but it has been a shame we haven't had some sunny weather while spending this time right on the coast. However, we did put on our rain gear and Ken, Barney and I took a walk along the beach in the wind and rain. This is the view out our windshield.

We leave here tomorrow for South Beach, again on the Oregon Coast. The forecast is for sun but still temperatures in the 60's. I have lost my tan and have a hard time believing we are into the month of August.

Spectacular pictures and views! We are going to take some kayaking lessons this fall. Intermediate paddling and rescues. Will help with the comfort zone in case we go to places like that! Sheila
