Tucson, Arizona - III

February 1 - March 1, 2007

Voyager RV Resort, Tucson, Arizona

I want to congratulate Chris and Jen on the grand opening of J. R. Brody's Roadside Tavern. I wish I could have been there, but, from reports on Facebook and e-mails from friends, there was quite a crowd and the opening was a great success. Heard the food is pretty good too. Anyone visiting the Cape in the future, stop in to say hello!!

Speaking of Facebook...the entire family has joined and everyone seems to be addicted. My kids have been on for awhile, but the rest of us have Lenny Garabedian to thank...thanks, Lenny!!

We are beginning our third week here in Tucson and there's still so much on our "to do" list. We're also supposed to be getting some warmer weather next week, so maybe we can get down to the pool.

We played golf this week at Crooked Tree Golf Course with Jack (not Butler) and Mike (not Farrer). Crooked Tree is another desert golf course, but very different from Arizona National which was located in the foothills.

This is called Sombrero Mountain. Can you see why?

At least I wasn't attacked by cactus on this course.

We spent a day at Old Tucson Studios which has hosted over 300 movie productions since 1939 including western film classics such as "Rio Bravo", "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Tombstone", and television shows such as "High Chaparral".

I stood in the same spot that John Wayne stood in the film "Rio Bravo" (right in front of that second post). However, the air conditioner unit on the roof of the porch was not there during shooting of the movie.

We took the walking tour hosted by an extra in some of those western movies (Marty Freese), and it only took him 30 minutes to rattle off all of those 300 films and TV shows. I know if Bob Bateman had been with us, he would have recognized all the scenes that were filmed here!

And, what would a visit to the old west be without a "Can-Can Revue". We visited Miss Kitty and her "girls" for quite the show.

Recognize the redhead?

"She" really got into the can-can!!

We played another round of golf; this time at the Forty-Niner Golf Course. We joined our neighbors here at Voyager, Jim and Jean Fry from El Dorado, Kansas on another, beautiful sunny day on the golf course.

I guess we played well enough, because Jim and Jean have invited us to stop by their golf community in Kansas and join them for a round when we are in the area!!

We'll be back again next week!!
