Arcadia, Florida

January 21 - 24, 2010

Cross Creek RV Resort
Arcadia, Florida

The name of this place is Cross Creek Country Club and RV Resort; so I naturally assumed there was a golf course right here. But, down here "country club" seems to mean all the other amenities excluding the "country club"; therefore, there is no golf. Found out later in the laundry room (it's amazing what you learn while doing laundry) that there was a golf course at one time, but had closed and the name never changed. The people here are very friendly and there are a lot of activities, but we're only here for a couple of days.

We took a short trip south to Fort Myers for the RV Show...very disappointing; a lot of fifth wheels and park models with only a couple of motor-coaches worth looking at.

Saturday was supposed to be a beautiful day with sunshine and temps in the 70's. We debated: pool or golf. Since we both look like northerners, we opted for the pool only to have the heavy cloud cover stay with us all day. When we got a heavy downpour we realized golf wouldn't have been a great choice either!

We drove around the area and again, I can see why prices in central Florida are so "reasonable". The area is showing the effects of the economic disaster and now even the oranges on the trees are looking bad after the January freeze just experienced in this area. Every once in awhile you will come across a place like Cross Creek Resort, an oasis in the middle of the desert. However, we also found the Desoto County Juvenile Detention Center, the Desoto Work Camp, the Desoto Correctional Institution and an enormous dump. As much as we liked Cross Creek, we won't be back.

Next stop: Marathon in the Keys. We're really excited about this portion of our trip as we have never been to the Keys. We'll meet up there with Susan and Bob, Marilyn and Greg, and Sarah will be joining us for a week (right after her 30th Birthday!!). Really looking forward to it.
Also, Happy Birthday wishes this month to Chris and Ella Kay.Birthday Candles

See you in the Keys.
