Thousand Trails - Medina Lake

Here we are on our first R & R stop....at a Thousand Trails membership park....in the middle of nowhere!  We have a lovely, private, large site with all the amenities EXCEPT wifi....need to go to the Activity Center for that.  I could use my Verizon Hot Spot, but that could become quite expensive over a two-week period!!

Notice the name of this blog is TT-Medina Lake....there is no more Medina Lake here.  With the drought and the dam, what brought people to this lake is no longer here.  The surrounding area has died....stores have closed; people have moved or not; very sad!!

Deer everywhere....and it's mating season, so we can't let Barney get too close.  We have also seen a very yellow, large cat.  We'll keep watching for him to see what he might be; mountain lion?

I have to ask....why, when we're in the middle of nowhere with a not of lot places to visit is the weather the best we have had so far.  All those great places with "not so good weather".....why???  We have had a fire every night here...70's during the day and 40's or lower at night!

We spent a day travelling almost 65 miles to visit Fredericksburg's Trade Days, the third weekend of every month.  A step above your average flea market....still didn't buy anything, but enjoyed the BEST 1/4 POUND HOT DOG EVER and the apple fritter.....WHOA...the best!!!

Another day we visited Bandera, the "Cowboy Capital of the World"....

We really enjoyed our day here; even looked for a "temporary" cowboy hat for Ken....the "real" ones were over $200...and we knew he would never wear it again!!!

Left Bandera for the scenic trip to see the real Hill Country of Texas...and the first stop was a visit to Medina, the apple capital of Texas.  Here we bought two slices of apple pie and two apple turnovers (for just under $20) to enjoy later....and were really tempted to buy a couple of gala (our favorite) apple trees, realized we couldn't do that on the road, so reluctantly walked on by....

Then took a 40-50 mile ride in the Texas Hill Country.  Wish I could remember the route numbers...the first part of the trip was absolutely beautiful...can't believe we missed the pictures of the "longhorns".  Maybe I got tired, but the second half of the trip was only "okay".

Five of the six nights we enjoyed a campfire....in the middle of nowhere...with no one around.  It was peaceful, but a bit scary (remember, this is me talking, not Ken).  A morning walk (with the headphones) found me startled a couple of times with the park rangers just checking things out when there was nothing to check out, or the deer staring me in the eye....are you going to get me or am I going to get you???  Love the serenity...not the seclusion.  Time to move on.

After deciding to cut our visit to Medina Lake short, we made plans to move on.  Then we heard the weather forecast of low temperatures and a "wintery mix" on our travel day...we decided to cut our stay even shorter.

So, seeing you soon at Buckhorn Lake RV Resort (not on the original schedule), only 65 miles from here but much more "populated" and a good place to be "homebound".
