Orlando, Florida

January 1 - January 15, 2008

Arrived in Orlando after spending New Year's Eve at Pecan Park RV Resort in Jacksonville, Florida. The more appropriate word would be "sleeping through" rather than "spending". You know you're getting old when your only plan for New Year's Eve is getting to bed early for a fresh start in the morning!!

The first couple of days in Orlando were uncommonly cold, but that didn't deter our golf plans. We played at The Providence Club and Harmony Preserve, both new courses and in very good shape! By the way, I had a first with two pars (on a par 3 and a par 5) and a BIRDIE (on a par 4 in front of a group of men letting us play through)! Ken did "just" okay. I've begun to realize that I don't inspire Ken on the golf course...he has his best scores when he plays with other people. We also played at Diamondback and Ridgewood Lakes, both a bit older, but just as fun!

We met up with Greg and Marilyn and Susan and Bob at Thousand Trails Orlando. We spent days and nights just sitting around "catching up" on family news and hearing about their past travels. We've learned there's a lot to see.

We spent a day at Epcot Center with Susan and Bob. It was our first trip to any of the parks at Disney World. I can see why you need to buy multi-day tickets because we were there all day and we probably covered a third of the park. I have to say, though, it looks tired. We went through a couple of the exhibits and had breakdowns. Most of the bathrooms could use some cleaning and updating. A couple other exhibits had parts or pieces closed down which was a bit disappointing. We didn't hit a real busy day so we didn't have a lot of waiting, which was good. We had dinner at the French restaurant...food was good but I want to know why the more money you spend the smaller the portions are????? Bear with me, I'm posting a lot of pictures.

We'll be back in Orlando in February for more golf and maybe another trip to Disney...as long as it's not school vacation week! We've met a lot of people at the Thousand Trails Preserves. Just about all of them are full-timers. Some travel like we do and others are just "snowbirds" who travel for the warmer weather...although I guess you would describe us as warm weather lovers too!
We're going further south next to Lake Okeechobee. See you there!
