Lake Placid, Florida
We were so busy playing golf and visiting with our golfer friends that we never took a picture of our site. We can use that as an excuse or just say we completely forgot!! I did however take a picture of the cactus outside my window which was very lovely with yellow and red flower buds all over it.
We had a great time - visiting that is. Our golf left a lot to be desired. However, Ken's team again won a first place and mine second place in the Scramble on day one. After that, we both considered giving up the game. On the last day I shot a 63 on the front 9 and 50 on the back 9...I never knew which golfer was going to show up on any given shot!!
We really enjoyed the company of our many old and new friends. On our day off from golf we went out to lunch at a popular Lake Placid Cafe. Suzie Cutter (sitting across from me) pointed out that the cafe was really packed (with a long line waiting for tables too) for a Wednesday afternoon. My observation was that everyone in the place was a "senior" and it really did not matter which day of the week it was. Lake Placid is a very nice area full of lakes and not a lot of traffic. A great place to retire with Sebring just a short drive north where you can find as much activity as you could want!
After lunch we walked around Lake Placid which has the nickname of The Mural City. There are over 40 murals painted on the side walls of buildings all over the town showing the town's history and culture. In addition there are artistic trash containers and tin clown statues (depicting original graduates of Toby's Clown School also located in Lake Placid) all over town. The murals also contained hidden pictures which kept you looking at some of them for a long time, noticing all the detail in the pictures. What a clever way to bring people into your little town center, visiting all the little shops and eating in the little restaurants!!
We also enjoyed a dinner at Chicanes at the Inn on the Lake in Sebring. It's been a long time since I have gone to a restaurant and enjoyed the meal. The company was probably a good part of that.
Here are our new friends, Bill and Wanda Beasley, Jan and Walt Makary, Suzie and Dick Cutter, Dave and Kathy Cramer, Gene and Jacqui Westerman and Peggy and Steve Brode.
We're heading north next, beginning our journey to Georgia and the Good Sam Rally in March. I hope the weather remains warm and we continue to escape the "severe thunderstorms" which have been happening around us.
