Crystal River, Florida

January 12 - 19, 2011

Crystal Isles RV Resort
Crystal River, Florida

We made it to Florida...don't let the blue skies and sunshine fool you though. The first two nights we had to shut the water off as temps went below freezing!  What is this?  We're in Florida!!

These motorcoaches aren't known for their insulation.  In the morning I would open a drawer for my clothes and it would feel like I was reaching into the refrigerator.  The heat pump would run all night long and by the early morning hours, you could hear it struggling to keep going.  Funny, that's exactly how I feel in the early morning hours after a cold night?

We actually found a day warm enough to see what the lack of playing had done to our golf game.  Just up the street was the Plantation Inn and Golf Course.  We managed to play 9 holes and then had to call it a day as it was getting cloudy and cold and Ken's back started acting up.  But, we did get in 9 (Ken's first time in almost a year) and he didn't play too poorly.  I, on the other hand, had no short game at all.  It didn't show up that much in the scoring, but, believe me, it wasn't pretty!!!

Because of Ken's shoulder, we didn't bring the kayaks with us this trip.  Not only would it be impossible to get the yaks on the roof of the car, but any extensive paddling would be more than the shoulder could take!  However, next winter trip back to Florida (post left shoulder operation) we will definitely come back here for some serious yaking.  The waters are crystal clear (hence the name) and warm.  You can even swim with the manatees!

Ken's having a good time with his new digital camera.  He went out one evening for some sunset pictures...the sunsets on the Gulf are truly some of the most beautiful we've seen.

I want to wish my wonderful son-in-law, Chris, and my beautiful granddaughter, Ella Kay, happy, happy birthdays.  Wish we could be there to celebrate with you!

Next stop, Clerbrook Golf & RV Resort in Clermont.  See you there!!

We spent some time in that area. Too bad you can't kayak...next time! Check out our blog from that period if you have the patience to find it. It is around March 29/10 and there is a reference there to this restaurant. You have got to check out "The Freezer." This is a very interesting restaurant/freezer that is not found through regular channels. It is on the Homosassa River and it has a sign on it that says Cedar Key Fish Market. It is kind of hard to find but I am sure you will get there. Best shrimp and unique atmosphere. Enjoy the area.
