Grand Canyon, Arizona

Trailer Village, Grand Canyon

April 1-5, 2014

We arrived and departed a day early to avoid weather.  In both instances we chose correctly.  We had been battling high winds and dust in Holbrook and knew there was a chance of snow showers in the Grand Canyon for our planned arrival time.  Good thing...

Setting up in Trailer Village we found the dust and sand has gotten into places in the motorhome we didn't know we had places.  Even with the windows closed, that fine red dust is all over the window sills.  Some of the bay doors would "scratch"  like when you get sand in your car windows and roll them up or down.

Finally all set up and the snow started.  We had finally arrived in Arizona and our temperatures had gone from "I could have stayed home" to "get ready for your tan".  At over 7,000 elevation, our nights were going down to below freezing at night and long pants, sweatshirts and gloves were called for in the day.

This posting is all about Grand Canyon...it is truly an amazing place.  There will be little to say that hasn't been said before; so, you're going to see a lot of pictures.  We took the Desert View Drive and Hermit Road on the shuttle bus; and did some hiking.  We received many recommendations to take a helicopter ride; but couldn't fit it in.  And the Grand Canyon Skywalk is more than this lady can handle!

So....ready for some pictures????  I can't give them in order....I can't give them in favorites....this place is astounding!!!

Ken's new friends:

And the one he will never forget....watch those eyes!!

But, this wasn't a trip about the animals...it was about the GRAND CANYON!!!!  Sit back...enjoy the beauty:

And Ken's sunset stop.....

And the Colorado River

And the fact that we were here:

What more can be said of the Grand Canyon?  It is grand....somewhat overwhelming.

Another check on the bucket list and a "grand" one.  We'll be leaving soon to meet up with Bob and Susan at Lake Havasu...another "always wanted to go there...."

See you there.
