Hershey, PA

Thousand Trails, Hershey, Pennsylvania
Wednesday, September 26 to Monday, October 1, 2007

Arrived late afternoon and there were only 30-amp sites available. By the next morning, we were able to move to our present 50-amp. It’s amazing how excited I can get over 20 extra amps of electricity!!

The TT park is neat and there’s plenty to do; the pool is closed for the season, but we really could have used it Thursday with a humid and sticky 90 degree temperature. We really enjoy the Pennsylvania countryside with long views of cornfields and farms.

We visited Hershey Chocolate World and, after our animated tour of the factory, we were absolutely overwhelmed with all the chocolate available for sale. We know Cassidy would have enjoyed this part of the trip!!

We also visited Indian Echo Caverns…all sorts of Susquehannock Indian history here, and mysterious local legends, like the Pennsylvania Hermit who lived in the caverns and the “Mystery Box”. During one of our cruises, we visited caverns in Barbados. That’s a Caribbean Island…supposed to have mysterious caverns; but, I never expected to find them in the middle of the United States in the State of Pennsylvania. Pretty darn interesting…

On Friday we played golf at Fairview Golf Course in Lebanon. We met up and played with Ed, a fellow RV’er who travels with eight other couples…none of whom play golf (where do these people come from?). By the way, DO NOT ask Ken how he played!!

We have not visited any of the Amish villages on this trip. We know we’ll be back to this spot during the next few years and plan on seeing much more on our future trips.

On the last day of our stay who pulls in across from us but Ken's cousin, Marilyn, and her husband, Greg. They were on their way home from Alaska where they enjoyed the countryside and fell in love with prospecting for gold! Even had the nuggets to prove it. The same thing happened a year ago when they pulled in right next to Sue and Bob. It certainly is a small world! (Divine intervention, maybe?)

This is our first experience in our new adventure. We’ve already met a lot of people doing just what we’re doing (although I have to say – with a smile on my face – most of them are older than we are!!) However, their stories all include the scheduled stops to see the doctor or staying somewhere for an extended stay to recuperate from knee replacement or for cancer treatments (we’ve heard this ALL in one week). We’re lucky and blessed and with the love and thoughts of our family and friends, we’ll continue on our way with you all in our thoughts and in our travels. We’ll see you next in Chesapeake Bay, Virginia.
